Decisions at CITES CoP15 will involve
high profile species as the
African elephant, tiger, and polar bear. The Parties will also be
considering trade controls or increased protection for some lesser
known
species such as spiny-tailed iguanas, the ornate dabb lizard, Kaiser's
spotted newt, and Agalychnis tree frogs. Fifteen proposals to establish
international trade controls for plants will be considered that involve
Argentine lignum vitae, Brazilian rosewood, and 13 species from
Madagascar.
Downlisting/delisting proposals will be considered for the
bobcat, Morelet's Crocodile, Nile crocodile, cliff spurge, marsh rose,
and
swartland sugarbush.
Some of the most controversial proposals involve establishing
trade controls for marine species include pink and red coral, and eight
shark
species.
